Psychological Assessment

At Auburn Psychological Wellness Center (APWC), we can do psychological assessment with clients age 8 through all of adulthood. We provide several types of psychological testing, including:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Assessment
  • Cognitive Assessment
  • Intellectual Assessment
  • Neuropsychological Assessment
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Testing
  • Personality Assessment
  • Psychodiagnostic Assessment (Mental Health Diagnosis)
  • Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Evaluations

How Assessment Can Help

Psychological assessment, also called psychological evaluation or psychological testing, can be helpful for several reasons. For example, assessment results might help:

  • Identify a specific mental health diagnosis that is causing distress
  • Create more effective treatment plans to support your mental health
  • Determine eligibility for academic accommodations
  • Support employment accommodations for disability
  • Suggest additional treatment options (e.g., medication, therapy)
  • Support planned medical procedures (e.g., gender confirmation surgery for gender dysphoria)
  • Suggest emotional support animal (ESA) accommodations (review our ESA conditions before scheduling)

What to Expect

Assessment includes an interview with a psychologist to learn more about your concerns and history. You will also complete one or more psychological tests with a psychological associate and/or psychologist. Because of our comprehensive assessment process, you will likely need to attend more than one testing session. Most testing must be conducted in person. Types of tests and length of testing depend on the question(s) you seek to answer, but generally address cognitive or intellectual functioning, personality, emotional functioning, mental health symptoms, attention/concentration, and/or academic achievement. Your psychologist will compile the results into a comprehensive report, with recommendations, that will be shared with you during a feedback meeting.

Schedule an Appointment

To schedule an assessment appointment, please call the Auburn Psychological Wellness Center front office at 334.219.0425. Please have a credit or debit card available when you call – we collect a $50 deposit for assessment appointments, which will be credited to your first invoice.
