What to Expect if We Work Together
My philosophy of care is to work collaboratively with each client to help them reach their goals and achieve a sense of mental, emotional, and relational well-being. I am trauma conscious, culturally responsive, and LGBTQ+ affirming. Related, I value learning about each of my clients’ unique life experiences and exploring the inherent strengths that each person brings to therapy. I use a variety of therapy modalities and enjoy helping my clients discover which skills and strategies work best for them. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful therapy, and I work hard to make sure that my clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to make change. Deciding to engage in therapy is a wonderful and momentous decision, and I feel honored to work with each person who walks into my office. I look forward to being part of your journey toward wellness!
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Alabama (L622). Regarding education, I hold a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Auburn University. My post-master’s training was through the University of Colorado and St. Mary’s Family Medicine. In addition, I received an advanced certificate in Medical Family Therapy. I am also a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Prior to my work at APWC, I worked in a variety of settings as a therapist including community mental health, primary care, and an integrated addiction treatment center.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our two dogs–Drew Barrymore and Peanut. I also enjoy running, playing piano and guitar, reading, and dabbling in crochet and embroidery.
