What to Expect from Me as a Provider
It selected as your provider, it is my hope that you leave each visit feeling that your individual care is my top priority.
- First appointment: Expect your initial appointment to last about an hour. We will discuss the presenting complaint, mental health and medical history of patient and family, and social history. We will map out a treatment plan that you are comfortable with. In addition, I will provide education about what to expect out of treatment.
- Follow up appointments: These will last about 30 min so that you have ample time to discuss any lingering problems, new concerns, and/or problems with medication or current care plan. It will also allow time to discuss any changes in your care plan, as well as continued education and skill development that may be needed.
- TIME IS VALUABLE: I strive to be on time for my patients, as I know that your time is very valuable. I do request the same in return. I ask that you arrive a few minutes early for appointments. That way, every minute is spent working towards meeting your needs. When coming late to an appointment, it takes away from the time needed to provide you with the best care possible and interferes with the time I have for patients scheduled after you. If you are more than 15 minutes late for a new patient appointment or more than 10 minutes late for a follow-up appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.
Higher Risk Medications
We do not currently prescribe controlled substances at this clinic. These medications include stimulants (a treatment for ADHD symptoms), benzodiazepines, some anxiolytics, and sedative-hypnotics. However, there are some cases when these medications can be an important part of a thorough treatment approach. For clients already on these medications or those for whom these medications may be beneficial, we will explore available options to manage your symptoms. We handle this on a case-by-case basis and we can discuss more at your appointment.
About Me
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, I have been an Auburn resident for 10 years. I graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology before deciding to pursue a career in nursing. I received an associate’s degree in nursing in 2012 and then a masters in nursing in 2016. Previously, I have worked as a psychiatric nurse on the inpatient unit at East Alabama Medical Center, and I have been in the outpatient setting for 5 years as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I am board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). In addition, I am a member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
I have been married to my husband Ben for 12 years. We are grateful that his job brought us to Auburn, giving us the opportunity to raise our two children here. When not in the clinic or at the soccer field, we enjoy spending time at the beach with family.
Schedule an Appointment with Ann Madsen
If you would like to work with Ms. Ann Madsen, please call the Auburn Psychological Wellness Center front office at 334.219.0425 or you can see information about scheduling an appointment. If you worked with Ann Madsen at her previous clinic, please mention this when you call or email the office.
Our psychiatry intake appointments are held in person. However, follow-up appointments can be attended through telehealth video appointments, as long as clients are in Alabama when they log into their appointment. This option is great for clients who live farther away from the Auburn and Opelika area, or who prefer the convenience of telehealth.
