Areas of Emphasis
As a psychiatry provider at Auburn Psychological Wellness Center (APWC), I treat both children and adults with a range of mental health concerns. However, my main areas of emphasis are:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Mood Disorders
- Sleep concerns
- Perceptual disturbances (Psychosis)
- Gender Dysphoria
- Decreasing or eliminating current psychiatric medications
What to Expect if We Work Together
If you establish care with me, we will discuss your medical, mental health, and treatment history during our first appointment. This appointment can last up to one hour. By the end of your first appointment, I strive to provide you with treatment recommendations that will include a diagnosis, lifestyle or behavioral modifications, and medication options if indicated. If medication is indicated, you will receive a prescription.
After the initial appointment, you will be scheduled for follow up appointments as needed for your individual care plan. Our office schedules your follow-ups for 30 minutes so that you do not feel rushed. We will address how well your care plan is working for you, medication side effects, and medication changes. I will also work with you to identify environmental and behavioral changes that can help reduce your distress and promote psychological wellness.
My Approach to Higher Risk Medications
Your physical and psychological safety is important to me. To reduce the risk of physiological dependence to medications, I do not prescribe substances with a high potential for abuse or dependence. These medications include stimulants (including stimulants for ADHD symptoms), benzodiazepines, some anxiolytics, and sedative-hypnotics. I am happy to discuss safer alternatives for managing your symptoms of concern. If you already have prescriptions for these higher risk medications when you establish care with me, we will determine a plan to decrease your risk of withdrawal while reducing or eliminating these medications.
